	Vertical
Incubators to save space This vertical incubators guarantee safe conditions for the
professional breeding and hatching of salmonid eggs (like: salmon, trout,
charr, grayling etc.) and can be combined and arranged in
	different ways, to utilise the
	 availabe
	 space as effectively as
	possible. The water (min.
6 l/min) from the inlet, flows through
the trays on which the eggs stays, and leaves the water tray over the front
during the side canals to the next tray, were it flows again through the egg
tray and so on, so that all trays will be supplied with sufficient
	water. Without disturbing the other
trays, each tray can be drawn out and controlled easily
and provides perfect conditions from the fertilized egg to the swim-up
stage. They are available with 4, 8, 12 or 16 trays (for

	The Siberian Sturgeon (Acipenser baerii
	Brandt, 1869)
	By Patrick Williot, Guy
Nonnotte, Denise Vizziano-Cantonnet and Mikhail Chebanov.
	Hardcover, 780 pages.
	This
two-volume book set focuses on the Siberian sturgeon. Acipenser baerii
one of the "still existing” sturgeon species, is a native species of
the Siberian catchments, where – as in many other parts of the world – the
sturgeon populations are now threatened. Sturgeon farming practices
targeting caviar and meat production have been expanding worldwide since the
1990s, and have seen a further increase since the turn of the century. Among
the handful of sturgeon species used for significant production, the most
dominant is the Siberian sturgeon. Given its peculiar phylogenetic position
as a chondrostei and its use as a biological model in some countries, the
species has also attracted the attention of biologists.
The aim of the editors was to provide for the
first time a comprehensive and updated synthesis regarding the
farming-related biology of the Siberian sturgeon. In light of the abundance
of material, it has been divided into two volumes, with a focus on biology
and farming, respectively. The main parts of Volume 1 are biology and
ecology, biology and physiology of reproduction, and ecophysiology. In turn,
Volume 2 is divided into six parts: reproduction and early ontogenesis,
growing, global production, long-term management of brood stock, state of
health through welfare and immunology, and ecological risks of installation
in non-native waters, illustrated by two long-term documented examples in
	Russia and France.

	MICROPROCESSOR METERS for professional monitoring

	 This
improved meters were specially adapted for use in aquaculture and limnology.
	The compact (L x W x H 165 x 83 x 34 mm, approx. 305 g) splash-proof cover
(IP 54), the plastic sensor (14 mm Ø, 150 mm long, with 1.5 m cable), the
very long sensor life (approx. 2 years standby time), and the delivery with
NiMH-batteries (2 x AA Mignon) and USB-cable with charger in transport case,
make these meters perfect for field work or laboratory use. The large
graphic multi-display makes the readings available clearly and quickly. The
short polarization time (approx. 30 sec. max. 5 min.), the low flow current
	sensitivity (1 % at 5 cm/sec.), the high precision +/-1 digit (0.1 mg, 0.5 %
or °C), as well as salinity correction, automatic air-pressure and
temperature compensation (in the range of 5-40 °C) makes working easy.
Automatic calibration with the calibration chamber (included) is an
additional feature. Options include stainless steel sensors (4.7-5.4 mm),
and other cable lengths available. To enable you assigning measured values
geographically, these meters are available with or without GPS. This
modern devices have: an electronic compass, a data logger with adjustable
start/stop time and measuring intervals between 5 sec. and 10 min., with
automatic storage of all measured values (approx. 3 months during battery
operation, also mains operation possible), a large internal memory (32000
locations), and an individual measured value storage on key press with 1000
memory locations. Additionally, radio controlled (RC) switching outputs for
standard RC sockets and acoustic signals, for up to 4 RC sockets with
separate two-point control for oxygen (absolute or relative), conductivity,
temperature or air pressure, two additional alarm outputs, which trigger a
standard RC bell when the set values are exceeded or subtracted, and two
additional channels for optical and/or acoustic alarm on the meter. The
power-saving graphics display (transflective with background lighting) with
best readability even in direct sunlight, and adjustable contrast, activates
automatically display and background lighting when the device is moved (can
be switched off). The beep (alarm and key tone) volume and frequency is
adjustable. PC-software for data visualization and data export included
	(with free online software update).

SUBMERSIBLE STERILIZERS for pipes, cannels, tanks and ponds
	This
UVC submersible emitters acts in order to sterilize water in pipes, canals,
tanks and ponds etc. The diving emitters are made of stainless steel and
accomplished as watertight. The (30 mm diameter) tube of the diving lamp is
sealed up and screwed in the stainless steel (V4A) case. The unit can be
assembled or retrofitted with few movements. The diving emitter gets fixed
by spring terminals on a stainless steel fixture. The pre-switch electronics
(230 V), properly attuned to the emitter, is included in the delivery and
can be integrated in a switchboard. Consequently an access or function
control during the operation of the unit are warranted. The fuse protection
by a GFCI ground fault circuit interrupter is necessary. The lifetime of
high-power radiation (Quicksilver or Amalgam) is 16.000 h - quality you can
rely on. The 3 m cable between the lamp and ballast can be extended on
request on 6 or 9 m. Simply installation and maintenance in existing plants
and pools. The watertight emitter can be mounted with a mounting plate on

	AUTOMATIC FEEDERS with integrated battery

This independent feeders where developed in Austria and are successfully
used since more than 20 years in small to large fish farms. The user
friendly feeding system with patented mechanism (spindle) allows easy
feeding and supply of food to day- and night active fish or other animals.
They can be powered by usual (Mono D) batteries (3 to 12 V/DC), which are
supplied with the feeder. Because of the optimized system, the batteries
have a long self-live, depending on feeding times and durance, usually about
one season (often also over 1 year). The timer clock with battery tester,
which is integrated in the hopper, allows exact settings of feeding times
and pauses. The feed supply can be regulated by a turn-able knob and ranges
from about 1 to 500 g per hour. Standard particle or pellet sizes of feeds
can range from 1 to 5 mm, smaller or larger food particles (also corn or
other seeds) are possible optionally. The robust, grey plastic containers
(made from polypropylene) guarantee for a long life of the feeder. The
standard feeders range from hoppers with a volume of 10 to 260 litre (larger
hoppers are possible on request). The larger feeders (from 40 litre volume
onward) are also available with an integrated ejector-mechanism, which
ejects the dry-food 3-6 m (optionally up to 8-12 m) in front of the feeder.
The feeder is usually placed on the edge of a tank or above a dock and fixed
via the two mounting holes on the sides. Optionally photovoltaic panels are
available. All feeders are also available without batteries, and with or
without timer, for the connection to an electric network with transformer
	(220 V/AC to 12 or 24 V/DC).

GUTTING DEVICES in new improved version

	 This
gutting devices are in use since more than 20 years and a valuable help
for small and medium processing plants. They allow to gutt and clean
fish (like trout) from 150-1000 g (optionally up to 3000 g) in one
rational working process, without give the fish out of the hand. There
is also no need for turning over the fish in your hand as all sequences
of operation start from the vent. If the operator should slip in the
direction of the blade while cutting, an injury can nearly be excluded.
With the adjustable and save gutting blade the ventral wall of the fish
is cut starting from the abdomen. As hygiene is the most important
factor when processing fish, injuries of the guts are also excluded. The
suction head has two scrape edges at its lower rim. While passing
through the fish, all remains (like kidney and blood) are removed. By
pressing a button, an automatic knive comes down and cuts the gorge,
which is than sucked and stored in a container. Optionally, after
gutting the remaining blood is removed by the rotating (1500 RPM, 20 cm
diameter) round washing brush. The rational working sequences enables
one person to process 300-400 fish per hour. The new reworked and
improved version (wall- and stand models) have a gutting head which can
be removed without tools and is dismantled in seconds, which allows good
cleaning and disinfection. The  removable suction head fitts to
usual waste containers, which allows easy and fast replacing and
deposition. Theese stainless steel gutting devices are delivered
complete as table, wall or stand units with or without compressor and
vacuumcleaner and with or without round rinsing brush.

		New version:
Gutting device wall set (without table, with
compressor, with cleaner and container), EUR 1.600,-
Gutting device stand set (with table, with

	New Books:

	Paddlefish Aquaculture
By Steven D. Mims and William L. Shelton (Authors), Hardcover, 320 pages.
Paddlefish
have become of increasing interest to the aquaculture community in recent years,
particularly as a potential new source of seafood and caviar. Native to North
America, paddlefish (Polyodon spathula) show great promise both
domestically and internationally as a commercially viable farmed species. This
book examines all aspects of the biology and culture of these fish, exploring
their physiology, production, end products and the economics underlying a
successful paddlefish operation. Chapters specifically cover paddlefish biology,
propagation and early culture techniques, production for meat and caviar,
international culture and history, paddlefish food products, bioaccumulants of
contaminants in paddlefish, parasites and diseases, and the economics of
paddlefish aquaculture. Paddlefish Aquaculture is a timely practical reference
for researchers and producers interested in this species.

Biology and Culture of Percid Fishes: Principles and Practices
  By Patrick
Kestemont, Konrad Dabrowski, Robert C. Summerfelt (Editors), et al.,
	Hardcover, 901 pages.
This
extensive work focuses on an important group of temperate freshwater fish,
approaching the topic from the perspectives of both biology and aquaculture. It
compiles the latest research on fish belonging to the Percidae family and
describes in detail all biological aspects relevant to the culture of different
species, including ecology, reproductive physiology, feeding and nutrition,
genetics, immunology, stress physiology and behavior. It also considers
commercial fish production and fish farming topics, such as protocols for
induction of gonad maturation, spawning, incubation and larval rearing. Expert
contributors not only provide a critical peer review of scientific literature
but also original research data, and identify effective practical techniques.
The book features chapters on systematics, ecology and evolution, on
development, metabolism and husbandry of early life stages and on growth,
metabolism, behavior and husbandry of juvenile and grow-out stages. Furthermore,
the authors consider genetic improvement and domestication, as well as diseases
and health management, crucial to the readers' understanding of these fish and
how they can be cultured.

    Ultraviolett
	Sterilizers -

	 This
ultra violett sterilizers utilize germicidal lamps which emit UV-C with an
effective wavelength of 254 nm, lethal for up to 99.9 % of bacteria, viruses
and other microorganisms present in the water. This ultraviolet technology
is one of the most effective method of water treatment and purification,
without using any chemicals. The effective UV Dose is: UV-Dose (µW.S/cm2) =
	UV-Intensity (µW/cm2) x UV-Exposure (S). The maximum operating pressure is 7
bar and the average lamp life is about 9000 hours. The supplied (internal or
external) ballast has an indicator to check the function of the lamp.

	 The
immersion UV-sterilizers are used under water, particularly in water tanks
to prevent secondary infection and pollution. They have a diameter of min.
25 mm and max. 40 mm, and are easily installed in any tank so that operation
	is very simpe.
The inline UV-sterilizers are used out of the water, particularely in
hatcheries to prevebt primary infection and pollution. The inside wall of
the stainless steel chamber is polished, which helps to improve the
	efficiency of disinfection by reflection.
    The following
immersion sterilizers are available as standard:

     The Sturgeons and Paddlefishes (Acipenseriformes)
of the World: Biology and Aquaculture
By Martin Hochleithner and Jörn Gessner.
An extended, updated and reviewed third edition. Soft- or
	Hardcover, 248 pages.

The breeding and culture of sturgeons in captivity has advanced rapidly over
the past several years. With recent developments, the requirements of the
industry have changed, and the techniques used have also evolved and been
adapted to meet these changing needs. Based on experience gained in the the
	former
USSR, new technologies have been developed, and the
background of sturgeon biology has been enlightened in many respects.
This compendium is designed to close the information gap between scientists
and practitioners. Its appeal will be far reaching since biologists, field
technicians, hatchery operators and fish farmers, fisherman and fish
enthusiasts, will all find a wealth of practical information relevant to
their field of interest. The book has the style of a species
synopsis coupled with everything anyone needs to know about the reproduction
and culture of acipenserid fishes. It summarizes current knowledge on all
sturgeon and paddlefish species worldwide and presents it as a
practitioner-oriented working guide. It draws on the experience and research
findings of the authors gained over more than two decades. The new, third
edition has been updated, extended, and reviewed, and includes many new
colour illustrations. It value will be timeless.

Sturgeon Fishes (Acipenseriformes): Science as Art
By Paul Vecsei and Martin Hochleithner.
    Hardcover, 120 pages.
    Illustrator and
biologist Paul Vecsei and aquaculture specialist Martin Hochleithner are
both internationaly well known experts in the field of sturgeon research and
culture. In this volume, they showcase the numerous sturgeon species and
highlight the plasticity of sturgeon morphology (both within and between
species) using more than 130 detailed illustrations and many summary tables.
The material in this book is the culmination of 5000 hours of scientific
illustrations. Each illustration is of an individual fish and is extremely
accurate. They are made in the technique of pointillism, a known fine-art
technique. Each picture is made by small dots, which, when viewed for a
distance, creates a very detailed rendition of shape and form. Sturgeon
afectionados, sturgeon experts and art lovers will appreciate the collection
of illustrations in this unique work.
The BIBLIOGRAPHY of Acipenseriformes: With over
	10000 References
By Martin Hochleithner, Jörn Gessner and Sergej
	Podushka.
Available as searchable electronic version (on CD-ROM)
or printed book version (over 500 pages).
     This
bibliography, which includes nearly all publications from around the world,
and covers all Acipenseriforms and a range of topics, is intended to serve
as a ready reference for researchers, fisheries managers, aquaculturists and
conservationists who work with this ancient fish group. The numerous
references are listed alphabetically by author(s) and chronologically by
year(s), as the original title. Almost all sturgeon- and paddlefish species
are threatened or endangered. Information on them is by no means complete,
whether in fields related to sturgeon culture, biology, ecology or
management. Due to the current rate of wild-stock exploitation and
environmental degradiation, the availability of new information might prove
crucial for their survival. This is an attempt to disseminate information
about work carried out to date, and to increase its availability.

	 This bibliography, which covers
all Acipenseriforms and a range of topics, is intended to serve as a ready
reference for researchers, fisheries managers, aquaculturists and

and paddlefish species are threatened or endangered. Information on them in
any field is by no means complete, whether related to sturgeon culture,
biology, ecology or management. In many aspects sturgeon biology is very
different from that of other fishes, and techniques suitable for other
species may not work with them. Due to the current rate of wild-stock
exploitation, the availability of new information might prove crucial for
their survival. This is an attempt to disseminate information about work

	 Cleaning
fish from scales with the help of a knife due to tradition is not a pleasant
work and takes quit a lot of time, energy and nerves. But luckily there is a
solution – it is the electric fish scaler! This compact, silent and
lighweight (just 1,2 kg) device makes the process of de-scaling fish easier
and faster as it is simple and safe while using. It ceans fish instantly and
doesn’t damage the skinn or meat. It doesn’t only clean fish but also

    Multichannel Commander System
     This
multichannel process control and management system is a very
versatile instrument that can be used as a stand-alone wirless and solar
powered multi channel controller for cages, ponds, tanks and raceways, etc.
If there are more than 1 monitor units and a base station receiver, then the
system automatically configures as a network and sends the information by
low powered wireless communication to the base station. The base station has
2 alarm outputs, so it is easy to connect it to a telephone dialer or a
local alarm. The base station connects to a PC via a USB, so now you have
all the information displayed on your PC and all the results can be data
logged. You can add up to 50 monitor units onto the one base unit, to make
a 100 channel network with no wires and no installation costs. This makes
for a really low cost simple system and for the first time provides a
package ideal for cages, ponds or for any installation that can not use
wires. In the event that you get hit with lightening, then generally only
one unit will be affected, and if it can not be repaired on-site then you
simply send the faulty unit back and replace with a working unit. This means
that you are in control of your own system and not dependent on service
	engineers.
The base station is designed to sit in an office or control room and is
connected to a PC by means of a USB cable. The base station communicates
with all the transmitters, collects the information and sends onto the PC to
data log the information and view the data. The base station has two
alarm/control relays so if any one or more of the probes detects a problem,
the relays can be activated to trigger your alarm system. The PC does not
need to be on for the system to control or alarm. The alarm condition and
probe location will be displayed on the base station LCD. One Base station
can support up to 50 oxygen transmitters and 100 oxygen and temperature
	probes.
The transmitter station is a solar powered wireless radio transmitter fitted
with LCD display for two oxygen probes, two temperature sensors, two digital
inputs and fitted with two relay control or alarm out-puts. The unit will
transmit over a distance of at least 300 m. If longer distances are required
a repeater may be fitted to take the distance up to 3 km or more. The
transmitter is in a self contained IP65 enclosure with its own battery and
solar cells. The battery alone will power the unit for 3-6 months, but with
the solar cells it will not require a battery change for at least 5 years. A
230 VAC/12 VDC uninteruptable power supply, rated at 2 amps with a 5 amp
internal back-up battery for the transmitter module which will the battery
will keep running for around 30 days, is available as acessoire.
The robust and easy to use (60 mm large) oxygen probe is a self polarising
membrane covered galvanic cell that generates an electrical signal
proportional to the oxygen pressure it senses, no matter whether it is in
water, air or another medium. It is connected using ordinary 2-core cable,
which can have any length (up to 1000 m) and does not need an external
supply because it makes its own electricity. Cleaning the membrane (with a
cloth or tissue) is, apart from an occasional calibration, the only routine
maintenance necessary. The probes are robust, reliable and as stable as an
optical probe but at a much lower price.

    New Books:
    Biology and Conservation of the
European Sturgeon Acipenser sturio L. 1758: The Reunion of the
	European and Atlantic Sturgeons
By Patrick Williot, Eric Rochard, Nathalie
	Desse-Berset, Frank Kirschbaum and
Jörn Gessner. Hardcover, 696 pages. (October
	2011)
    The book aims at synthesizing
our current knowledge of Acipenser sturio and its management. This species,
one of the most widespread sturgeon species all over Western Europe ranging
from the Black Sea to the Baltic, is now on the verge of extinction. Major
aspects of its biology and management, including mismanagement, are provided
in a historic perspective. Similarly, the changes in the restoration
programs (in situ and ex situ) initiated in France and Germany are
presented. As the species occurred in sympatry with Acipenser oxyrinchus in
Germany and Poland and very recently in France as well, a brief outlook on
restoration-management programs of A. oxyrinchus are also provided for both
North America and Northern European countries, namely Germany and Poland. As
conservation-restoration actions go beyond scientific issues,
non-governmental stakeholders and marine professional fishermen’s
organizations have also been asked to contribute, and the key role of a
French-German cooperation plan is underlined. A part of the book is devoted
to perspectives. Illustrations of the European sturgeon, mainly in
photographs, but also in stamps and paintings, are presented.
Just let me know if there is
	any special question,
    with best regards
    Martin Hochleithner
